Caribbean Cricket

Cricket and the Caribbean are often considered to be alter egos. The Caribbean has produced many legends in this sport. After winning the ICC world cup in 1975 and 1979 they were literally reckoned as invincible during that decade. Truly it was an era that belonged to the Caribbean as a super power.

The West Indies won the first edition of the ICC cricket world cup in 1975 under the captaincy of the then captain Clive Lloyd. The tournament had 8 participating countries.

The matches were played as sixty(60) overs per team in white attire and red balls. Batting first the West Indies amassed 291/8 in stipulated 60 overs, beating Australia by 17 runs.

West Indies captain Clive Lloyd notched up a century in that match (102 from 85 balls, 12 fours, 2 sixes).




World Cup 1979 Triumph


 Carrying forward their winning tempo the West Indies went on to win the next edition of the ICC cricket world cup in held in England in 1979 from June 9 to June 23. 
The West Indies started the tournament as favorite and captain Clive Llyod once again lifted the Prudential Cup. There was no 'Man of the Series' title awarded in this edition of world cup.
The final was played between  the West Indies and host England. Batting first the West Indies amassed 286/9 in their quota of 60 overs. England were bundled out for 194 in 51 overs.
Viv Richards was awarded the 'Man of the Match' award for his innings of 138 and remained unconquered.
